None of the original illustrations are actually included in this book :(

I was so excited to get this book--I splurged the extra five dollars to get the most up-to-date edition. The book is 71 pages long and has 38 illustrations, so clearly the illustrations are a critical part of the book.
But none of the illustrations are actually included--where the illustration should be, it just says, for example [Illustration Fig. 30.] It's really a disappointment. If you go here: [the website won't post, but you can easily find it online], you'll find a copy of the book with all the illustrations--and the whole book is free.
Faraday is a genius. This edition of his seminal work? Not.

Exceptional Work - Recommended

"The Chemical History of a Candle" is fascinating and surprisingly informative for a science book published over 160 years ago, but honestly sound physics remains "true" regardless of when the scientist worked. This is actually a collection of the transcripts from a six-part lecture series give by Michael Faraday to an audience of "young people" and this perhaps is what makes the concepts easily (mostly) understandable for me. My sister sent me this book since she knows my love of candle making (it is our family business for over 45 years) and interest in technical and scientific writings.
This is not a "how to" book on candle making, but rather a look into the science of "why" and "how" a candle works when lit. The writing style is dated, but certainly understandable, and it is only hampered by the lack of illustrations referenced in the text. As it happens, I have an antique copy of the book that is too fragile to read but was able to find the illustrations that interested me. This book is also firmly in the public domain so PDF copies with the illustrations are easy to find with a quick search.
