Pretty great book!

what a great drama! I tell everyone I know to read it so it doesn't stay a secret outside of school. my favorite part was when the town loses its TEMPER and becomes an angry mob!

The book content is excellent, I wanted to re read it and wanted a copy for my library. It arrived today, and it is the worst quality hardcover book I have ever purchased for $30, actually for any price. The printed pages look like they were photocopied, on cheap paper, cheap hardcover, generally cheap feel all the way around. It is apparent this was rushed into print to take advantage of the possibility of folks like me wanting to re-read this classic before Harper Lee's "found" novel is released. I'm sorry I fell for it.

A great classic. Never gets old

I'm not going to give an in-depth review here because I don't feel I need to for this book. That said ,if a young person is reading my review(that would be odd indeed!) Then I do feel I should mention the book is very good but it does use one of the ugliest words of all time in several instances. Yes, the N word is used in this but it is used in such a way that you know the characters lived during that terrible period of our great but also troubled history. The word was said more often than not and even children learned it as a part of their regular everyday speech. If you are offended by the mere sight sound or thought of the word then I suggest you don't read the book. If you can get past it by focusing on the GREAT story here, you will likely enjoy the book. In any case that was the main issue that could be offensive to others
You have been warned now. Hopefully with a little maturity and understanding that the word wasn't used in THIS BOOK to be horrible to any group OR individual..I can say this is a great book in spite of the usage of an antiquated way of speech that was accepted way back then. I'm IN NO WAY EXCUSING the use of it but am simply saying that it was the awful reality of our country then! In my opinion, it doesn't automatically make the book an awful racist piece of garbage. The book is quite good. I doubt they would be reading this book alone anyway but for the record, no young children should be reading this or having it read to them unless plenty of parental guidance is there for the child/children! MOST of the kids old enough to read this alone probably know some things are just plain out unacceptable in social situations of our time. Hopefully parents will take their kids lead and decide what ell them what they need to know about that word being offensive and hurtful! Enjoy this classic with a nice glass of sweetened tea or lemonade:)
